I've been working in identity verification for over a decade, and I genuinely believe verifiable credentials represent the biggest shift we've seen in this space.
## The Problem with Traditional IDV
Traditional identity verification has several fundamental issues:
1. **Repeated verification** - Users verify their identity over and over with each new service
2. **Data silos** - Each company stores copies of sensitive documents
3. **Privacy concerns** - Users have no control over what data is shared
4. **Slow and expensive** - AI processing, manual review, high costs
## How VCs Change Everything
Verifiable credentials flip the model:
- **Verify once, reuse everywhere** - Credentials from trusted issuers can be presented to any verifier
- **User control** - The user decides what to share and with whom
- **Selective disclosure** - Share only the attributes needed (prove you're over 21 without revealing your birthdate)
- **Cryptographic verification** - Instant, mathematically provable verification
## What's your take?
I'd love to hear from others in the community. What problems are you solving with VCs? What challenges are you facing?
